Chery launches new Jetour X

Chery is searching for a name for its futuristic Jetour crossover

Chery Holding’s sub-brand Jetour, founded in 2018, has announced a new crossover with a futuristic design. The car does not have a name and it is up to motorists to choose it.

For now, the parkcar is referred to by an impersonal name – the X-1. To improve the situation a competition was held until 1 January 2022 to find the best name for the new crossover. The best of the proposed options will be chosen by voting. Jetour has promised to use the most creative and interesting names. The names include Tuna, Falcon and exotic Jade Emperor.

Technical Specifications

The crossover is based on Huawei’s latest proprietary Kunlun architecture with support for Level 3 autonomous driving technology in accordance with the SAE classification. The parkcar will be able to drive without a driver, accelerating and braking, but in emergency situations a person can be behind the wheel.

The platform can be upgraded to SAE level 5 and in the future, when equipped with the LS system, the crossover will move on its own without the installation of a steering wheel.

The new Chery Jetour X1

Chery Jetour X-1 exterior design

The vehicle’s futuristic exterior is accentuated by dynamic lines and an original offset of angular shapes. The designers did a great job with the individual elements as well. The headlights are elegantly integrated into the frameless radiator grille, so you won’t notice them at first glance. The daytime running lights are in the form of small slits and mark the borders of the bonnet from below. The body has a sporty profile with arched roof lines and a spoiler.

The developers propose a hybrid car with recharging via a charger hatch provided on the front wing. The stern attracts the eye with its Y-lights and original bumper diffuser design. The sloping rear pillars create the visual effect of a ‘soaring roof’.

Chery engine

Under the bonnet of the crossover is the Kunpeng power platform, although a hybrid version cannot be ruled out. A 1.5-litre eight-cylinder engine producing 170bhp accelerates the car in tandem with two electric motors. Together they produce 462 bhp and 510 Nm of torque. Likely, the car will also get a high-performance hybrid drivetrain. Chery has not yet disclosed any other technical details.

To sum it up – Jetour has managed to create a compact, eco-friendly and, in the long run, a high-performance luxury car with a futuristic design. Sales in China are scheduled to start in 2022.
