A series of new iPhone models and the next-generation Apple Watch are among the products that fans expect to see at Apple’s Event 2022 on 7 September. The California-based company has always used its September event as a launch platform for its iPhones since 2012. In addition to the iPhone and the new Apple Watch, the Apple giant may also release the new AirPods Pro, iPad Pro with the M2 and the much-anticipated mixed reality headset.
The Apple Event 2022 has the tagline “Far Out” with the Apple logo formed by a set of stars on a galactic background. The company has been broadcasting pre-recorded videos for its launch events since the COVID-19 outbreak. In March, Apple’s WWDC event had a studio audience, but no speakers themselves.
Now, for the first time since 2019, Apple will reportedly have live speakers to talk about new products. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Tim Cook will attend two in-person events on 7 September. Some media have already been invited to Apple headquarters for the event. Apple enthusiasts around the world will be able to watch a live stream of the event on the company’s official YouTube channel starting at 10:00 a.m. Pacific time.
Which product will be the most important for Apple Event 2022? The Apple iPhone 14, of course. Everything about the September 7 event revolves around the iPhone 14 range, of which four models are expected. Apple gets more than half of its revenue from the line of mobile devices, the first model of which was released 15 years ago, in 2007.
Some major retailers have reportedly been told to prepare for a major iPhone launch on 16 September, about a week after Apple Event 2022. According to an August report from Bloomberg, the 5.4-inch version of the iPhone Mini will be discontinued, while the 6.7-inch model will be introduced as a non-professional iPhone – the first of its kind in this size.
Another 6.7-inch model could be the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max. Reports also suggest that the Apple iPhone 14 range could get a new 6.1-inch screen variant, which will be available in both standard and Pro versions.
The Apple iPhone 14 may get a completely revamped camera. The Pro Max model could have a 48-megapixel sensor for the wide-angle lens with two 12-megapixel cameras for the ultra-wide and telephoto lens. All Pro models can do away with the classic ‘fringes’ – the cut-out for the front camera – and replace it with a hole puncher, which is present on Android phones. A secondary ‘tablet’ design is possible. This ensures that the actual display area is even larger.
Like the Android phones, the Pro versions could also have an always-on display for on-screen notifications, which could also get upgraded A16 processor cameras. According to MacRumors, the Pro models may also see the old battery and percentage indicators next to it return. Apple’s new models have a battery icon, but not a percentage display. The company is also testing the display of the percentage indicator inside the battery icon in the beta version of iOS 16. All Apple iPhone 14 models will have a Lightning port instead of USB-C.
The starting price of the Pro models could be around $899, with the regular models priced at $799. Pre-orders for the new iPhone are expected to start on 9 September.
